THE new Spirit of Tasmania, TT-Line's $155 million passenger ship, sailed on her maiden voyage between Melbourne and Devonport this week - and the company is celebrating with a great holiday giveaway.
Simply fill in the coupon below and you and your family could be off on a self-drive holiday around Tasmania. One lucky Travel and Leisure reader will win:
* A return crossing for four (two adults and two children) from Melbourne to Devonport on board the new Spirit of Tasmania, courtesy of TT-Line.
The prize includes space for your car, plus cabin accommodation for your family, but you need to make your own way to Melbourne.
* Five nights' accommodation in a range of colonial cottages around Tasmania, courtesy of Cottages of the Colony.
The prize is subject to availability and can be taken any time next year(see today's Public Notices for conditions of entry).
The Spirit of Tasmania, which replaces the Abel Tasman, will sail from Melbourne three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and return from Devonport on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. The overnight Bass Strait crossing takes about 15 hours.
The new passenger liner, capable of carrying 1,323 passengers and 325 vehicles, offers a unique sea voyage from mainland Australia to Tasmania. The Spirit has five levels of accommodation, from suite and deluxe cabins to porthole and family cabins. There is also hostel accommodation with shared facilities.
There are a variety of restaurants and club lounges, an activities centre for children, creche facilities and a nightclub. There are also a gym and swimming pool. One-way fares start from $85 a person.
Cottages of the Colony offers a range of comfortable accommodation throughout Tasmania. The cottages range from romantic hideaways for two to spacious homes suitable for two couples travelling together or a family.
Locations range from the island's main cities and towns to tiny fishing villages, beach communities, the rugged west coast, and historic villages.
Many were built by convicts and all have been decorated and furnished in traditional manner, but with modern amenities.
Each cottage has its own history, and some started life as stables, flour mills, Sunday schools, army barracks and even jails.
If you are not the winner of this great prize, you can book a similar holiday through the TT-Line, 132 010, Cottages of the Colony, 008 814 603, or the Tasmanian Travel Centre in Sydney, (02) 202 2022.
